Mary Mack Creations

British Columbia Owned

Mary Mack Creations is a vibrant, Simcpw-owned artisan business dedicated to crafting unique, handmade goods that honor tradition, sustainability, and creativity. Rooted in a lifelong passion for design, Mary Mack’s work spans multiple mediums, including beadwork, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Each piece is a reflection of deep cultural ties and a commitment to craftsmanship.

Specializing in intricate beadwork, Mary Mack creates earrings—both flat and fringe—along with lanyards, medallions, keychains, and more. She is continually expanding her skills, incorporating natural materials such as porcupine quills, birch bark, horsehair, feathers, and tanned leather—both hand-tanned and factory-processed—into her designs. Her sewn creations range from ribbon skirts and dresses to hoodies, t-shirts, and drum bags, as well as custom tote bags and purses. In addition, she handcrafts cozy knitted and crocheted pieces, including toques, scarves, sweaters, baby blankets, headbands, and dishcloths.

Mary’s journey as an artist began in her youth with a dream of becoming a fashion designer. Sewing was her favorite subject in high school, and her creative exploration started with knitting baby blankets and dishcloths for k̓wséltkten (family and friends). Her artistry expanded when she was mentored by Leeann Eustache, whose guidance and patience nurtured a passion for beadwork. With Leeann’s support, Mary honed her skills and developed the confidence to share her work beyond gifting, recently deciding to offer her pieces for sale.

More than just a craft, Mary’s art serves as a form of reconnection and relaxation. The creative process allows her to unwind from daily life, centering herself in the rhythms of traditional artistry rather than focusing on sqlew̓ (money).

For Mary, sustainability is deeply tied to a reciprocal relationship with the tmicw (land). She believes in taking only what is needed, leaving the land in better condition than it was found. This philosophy extends to mindful harvesting—whether gathering melámen (medicinal plants), speqpéq (berries), or ts̓i7 (deer meat)—by ensuring that the ecosystem remains balanced and that the needs of wildlife are respected.

Through Mary Mack Creations, she shares not only handcrafted items but also the teachings, traditions, and values that shape her artistic journey.
